An Oriental Dancer:

  • Originates from the Middle East
  • Understands Middle Eastern Culture
  • Understands, practices and interprets the vast and varying styles from all countries over the Middle East
  • Performs solo, respecting the ancient dance form, by women for women
  • Expresses the graceful form of dance expression that requires poise and control
  • Does not formally choreograph her dance, which is created in the moment
  • Dances with her soul, having a deep connection to the music & or song
  • Has the skill to use a veil, cane and finger cymbals
 

A Belly Dancer:

  • Little or no knowledge of Middle Eastern culture/language and the meaning of the expression of the dance
  • Practices the dance for seedy nightclub audiences
  • Performs tricks that include the use of fire or reptiles
  • Sword dancing & balancing on hips!
  • Dances with massive Wings (Isis)
  • Covering the face completely
  • Historically dancers have removed clothes or costume in the act
  • Dance with her body but is not able to connect with the music
  • Unflatteringly exposes her girth
